Mr. Hmm??

Svolvær Lofoten
'Mr. Hmm??'  kind of strange alias for a street artist and I don't know much about him unless that he is a guy who lives in the Lofoten Area (Henningsvær), are a newcomer as street artist. His works is clearly inspired by Dolk and Pøbel and he doesn't deny 'stealing' from other artists.

Mr Hmm?? may lack originality as an artist at this point, but he's got a fantastic environment to work in.

In 2008 Dolk and Pøbel began to explore the Lofoten area and began to make their 'urban art' in rural parts of Norway on abandoned houses in the amazing nature surroundings of Lofoten. The project became famous world wide. Their work has probably inspired Mr Hmm?? to begin his street art work.

As far as I know, Mr Hmm?? is the most northern living street artist in europe, and hope he will develop as an artist, when it comes style and originality.

Type 2

Summer is short in the nordic countries. People come out, come together and take part in all kinds of activities. Summer is busy and this year the Nordic Type 2 club is gathering at Akkerhaugen in Telemark and since I was home, I decided to make a visit. The visit was like going back in time, back to my childhood when happiness was to own a beetle (Volkswagen Type 1) and the more adventurous families bought a Volkswagen bus (Type 2) and took off on the road for vacation.

This family comes all the way from sweden and call their wagon "Tilsammans" with reference to 'flowerpower', the 60's, 'peace and love' and the collective movement.

Pekka from Finland is trying to sell his wagon for two cases of beer, and for a entra case you will get his wife and dog as well.

Family happiness! Mother is having a cigarette while father takes care of their new born child.

The owners are proud of their cars and have made an effort to make them look colourful and shiny!

This norwegian guy is trying to attract a partner and I wonder if Type 2 owners have Type 2 personality?

There is a house....

There is a house... in the Lofoten Islands, on Gimsøy (Gims island). Gimsøy is on of the smallest islands in Lofoten, but really beautiful and Hov in the northern part is a perfect spot for watching the midnight sun.

The house has been abandoned for years. Gimsøy, as many areas along the coast of Northern Norway experiences depopulation and today only 206 people lives on the Island.

Dolk and Pøbel have painted abandoned houses in Lofoten for years and by this work, they have raised awareness about depopulation and decay in rural parts of Norway

Work by Pøbel
It's difficult to think of a better scenery than Lofoten. The nature and light is awesome. This house had a pretty anonymous life, left alone to dacay untill the street artists found their way, and today the house is a landmark in the area.

Most of the works of Dolk and Pøbel is gone now, most of them degraded by the of harsch climate of the north. It may look beautiful on a quite summer day with light around the clock, but most of the year it's dark, windy, cold and rainy.

I wonder if people will come back, restore the house and live here again. I don't know, but there are an increasing interest too save and live in these houses, at least part of the year and people from the south of Norway is buying up property in the north as vacation homes.

The work by Pøbel is one of the best preserved street art pieces and one of the few left in Lofoten.
